Will my heat pump be OK in wet weather?

A lot of the questions we get asked about heat pumps revolve around colder temperatures and whether they can maintain function in cold spells. However, Britain is renowned for its volume of rain and we were recently approached by a customer asking if our units can cope with wet and windy weather.

The answer is yes- typically an installer will look at the best situation for your heat pump, taking into consideration positions where water may pool and avoiding areas where water may drip directly into the unit. A sheltered area is best to protect the unit from the worst of the weather whilst still allowing sufficient air flow.

Using a trustworthy and knowledgeable installer such as PBT Installations means you can be confident in the siting and set up of the unit, and that the correct drainage is provided for water to drain away. Removing heavy snow and ice from the heat pump will also help it to run efficiently. Stiebel Eltron use a protective weather proof casing to surround the mechanical components and provide protection from the elements. A regular service will enable our engineers to check for any damage.
