Jody and James originally began their project with the intention of upgrading their existing stone cottage. During meetings with architects, it was suggested that they might be better off converting some of the barns which stood on the land instead. A class Q conversion was filed to allow the buildings to become dwellings, but it soon became apparent that taking down the existing barns entirely and putting up a new build instead, would be a better option. Planning permission was applied for and eventually Jody and James were able to begin their project.
The couple decided to project manage the build themselves, and began incorporating renewable technologies to futureproof their home. However, it was halfway through the installation of these technologies that disaster struck. The company who they had employed to install them went bankrupt.
It was then that the couple found PBT Installations, a company who were experienced in the installation of all the technologies they wanted in their new home. The couple met with Pete and felt reassured that he could complete the half finished installations.
Pete recommended some changes to the original plans as he felt that the original specifications would not give the couple the best results, and that other choices would integrate better.
MVHR, UNICO, underfloor heating and a STIEBEL ELTRON WPL 25 air source heat pump were all successfully installed through the home and whilst the couple have not yet moved in, Jody and James have every confidence that Pete’s recommendations were the best option.
In addition to the work that PBT completed, the house also had solar panels installed. However, at the point that the original company left the job, the panels were not fully commissioned and were left without an inverter.
PBT Installations recommended our preferred partner, Eco Energy Environment, who installed a Victron Inverter and got the panels signed off and working.
The couple also plan to install a Battery Storage System further down the line to help further reduce energy costs by storing the energy generated by the Solar PV. The house benefits from 34 solar panels so along with battery storage, energy costs should be very low.
Jody has always been firm that the renewable technologies are the way to go and feels confident in the products they ended up installing.
The couple have been pleased with the work from PBT Installations and feel that Pete saved the day by stepping into a half completed job. PBT Installations worked to find solutions for the couple and recommended choices that made sense when integrating different technologies to create an overall Smart Home. They are looking forward to a comfortable winter in their new home.
